Recursive's Co-founder and Chairman, Yamada, spoke at a major networking event for entrepreneurs and innovators hosted by Nagoya Try Catapult on February 20, 2026. This event was held for entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs, aiming to share practical knowledge and foster networking.
During his lecture and discussion, Yamada provided specific advice on critical themes faced by entrepreneurs, including:
- First Fundraising Steps and Precautions: Yamada explained that it's crucial to select investors by understanding the investment stages, characteristics, and compatibility of each VC. He also noted that Corporate VCs (CVCs) rarely act as lead investors, making the presence of a VC lead investor often important. The advice was to start by approaching about three VCs.
- Business Direction in the AI Era: Yamada stated that "as many tasks are automated by AI, we must first update human values. By changing current norms, the value of service-providing companies will increase." Following this, he introduced market areas and business opportunities that he believes will gain value in the future.
- Methods for Entering Global Markets: Yamada specifically detailed their experience of independently approaching government agencies such as Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and JETRO, actively participating in various overseas events to expand their network, and building a track record.
- Launching New Businesses Within a Company: Based on experience as an advisor for new business development in large corporations, Yamada emphasized the necessity of executives acting as "guardians," shielding the team from external noise, and creating an environment where even small achievements can be shared and accumulated internally.
In addition, a pitch session was held by participants who are currently entrepreneurs or considering starting a business. Yamada provided specific feedback on their business ideas and models.
