Basics of Borealis

Borealis is a collection of software components, data pipelines, and architectures for physics-based simulations, combining state-of-the-art techniques from academic research and technology breakthroughs.

The system ingests a wide variety of data sources and can fuse together 3rd-party data with your proprietary data and sensors into a high-resolution, geographic mesh. Our proprietary AI models then combine this mesh with physical knowledge and mathematical equations specific to the physical system being modeled, for best-in-class simulations and predictions. High-precision accuracy

Borealis is built from the ground up for high-precision without sacrificing speed. Our detailed simulations enable competitive advantages and new business models by de-risk investments and operational activities, by reducing deployment times from years into months, and by reducing the running costs of on-site monitoring.

Borealis enabled one client 7-day groundwater level predictions with 6cm of accuracy for any given 15m² plot of land across 1,200km², despite using monitoring sensors at only 20 locations.

When used for choosing solar panel sites, Borealis de-risks investment decisions by providing significantly higher accuracy estimates of solar energy output for a specific location, as well as the historical variance of solar radiation. While investment decisions traditionally required a trade-off between speed and accuracy, Borealis reduces the multi-week process of manual calculations down to a near-instant process, enabling teams to consider and compare multiple candidate locations in ways previously impossible.
