Katsutoshi Yamada, Co-Founder and COO of Recursive, was invited to be a guest lecturer for the University of Miyazaki’s Graduate School of Engineering. He delivered an online lecture for the newly introduced course, “Advanced Information Theory to Meet Societal Needs,” which began in October 2024. The course focuses on the social implementation of data science and AI technologies, allowing students to explore successful examples of digital transformation (DX) and the latest technological trends. In his lecture to approximately 60 students, Yamada introduced Recursive’s business and discussed case studies of various sustainability initiatives that utilize AI, as well as basic knowledge of sustainability and its latest trends.
During the lecture, Yamada also passionately told the students, “While it is wonderful to thoroughly pursue technology, it is also important to think about why you are doing it. There are various issues in the world, so I encourage everyone to think about what you can achieve through technology and innovation in addressing these issues." In addition, Yamada also shared his experience as a serial entrepreneur, and stressed, "Solving social problems and working for sustainability is not everything. What matters is that you focus on what you are passionate about and hold onto that passion. You never know when an opportunity will arise."
During the Q&A session that followed his lecture, there was strong interest from students regarding the use of AI in the education sector, as well as its business models. A question was also raised about developing AIs that can resonate with human emotions. The session saw impressive engagement from students, leading to a lively exchange of ideas.
In addition to developing and providing solutions that contribute to sustainability and the resolution of social issues through AI, Recursive will also continue its commitment to empowering AI communities worldwide, driving efforts toward a sustainable future.
